Anna Lockwood

This painting measures 160cm tall.. By painting it larger than life size, my intention was to make it similar to an ancient portrait found in a stately home. The scale makes it seem threatening; but its face is full of mischief and character. The Shoebill easily lends itself to being anthropomorphic thanks to its upright stature and hear human proportions. And for some reason this bird is most definitely male!
